AMNA does not want you or anyone else to read this website! Nor do they want you to visit AMFuture.org! That's because a few members of AMNA disagree with the information and viewpoints expressed at these sites and they fear they will lose their sway.
Why do we care about AMNA? These are the folks who write the articles in the Greater Northwest News (aka green paper). These are the folks who gave the MUD Board the idea that residents want to have patrols looking for deed restriction violations. They promote the idea that we want to spy on our neighbors and report them for any given reason rather than talking and working together. They advocate a confrontational approach to dealing with the City of Austin rather than one of cooperation. Their membership is small (less than 5% of the neighborhood), but they are the voice of the residents. Are they your voice? Consider the following:
When CUTM.org hosted City of Austin Council member Brewster McCracken at a question and answer event for the neighborhood at Bethany United Methodist Church, AMNA President, Phil Denney refused to send out the invitation to the AMNA membership. Mr. Denney regularly sends out event announcements to it's members so there was no conflict. Mr. Denney was sent 4 emails requesting he share the invitation with the membership (he claimed he deleted them as spam), as well as a hand delivered invitation and request from AMFuture.org candidate Steve Nelson. Mr. Denney did not send out the invitation but he attended the event!
The Anderson Mill Neighborhood Association has violated it's own by-laws and endorsed the incumbent MUD Directors as well as the approval of a Limited District. Because there have been no meetings since March 2008 and at no time was a vote taken to determine the position of the Association, we can only assume that it is Mr. Denney's opinion regarding the elections and endorsements and representing it as those of the AMNA members.
AMNA's President, Phil Denney supports the broad overbearing deed restriction interpretations that are currently being used. He has made no apologies for publicly stating that there needs to be more stringent enforcement of what his idea of your house should look like. Four years ago when he was running for MUD Board Director he told a voter that he supported limiting the choices of colors that could be used for houses. Mr. Denney and a small but vocal group of members of AMNA want to tell you how to keep house - what color it should be and how it should be landscaped. Is your property Phil Denney approved?
Last summer, Phil Denney LIED to the Williamson County Road Maintenance director and had a crew of 5 Williamson County employees with chainsaws devastate a resident's landscaping while the resident was at work. This particular homeowner works almost daily on their yard and has created a fantastic refuge. However, it isn't a manicured St. Augustine lawn. He told the county director that as AMNA's president he had the authority to take action on deed restriction violations and that he had received complaints about this property and had attempted several times via mail and calls to work with the resident but the resident refused to work with him. Turns out, there were NO LETTERS, and there were NO CALLS. At the time of his action AMNA was no longer involved in Deed Restriction complaints or enforcement! AMNA has never had the authority to take any type of action other than issuing letters to property owners notifying them of a possible violation and turning it over to the MUD for any additional action. Further, when confronted about the destruction of the property, he originally denied any knowledge of the event. Then he offered that it may have been county crews trimming trees in the neighborhood. Then he admitted he called the county and that he had not sent any letters or made any calls to this resident about their property, nor could he explain what violation other than being different this resident had commited.
CUTM.org has evidence to backup these claims; the emails where Mr. Denney changes his story 3 times, and lies. Fortunately for Mr. Denney, the property owner was waging a battle with breast cancer or she would have pursued civil remedies and criminal charges.
